BOTSWANA
SUMMARY
We rode through Botswana on our motorbike. Although we saw the most wildlife here vs the rest of Africa we could have enjoyed it more in a 4×4 car. We struggled to cross the Makadikadi Salt pans in the deep sand. None of the national parks will let you enter with a motorbike.
The people are very used to tourists. The mass tourism in the north and around the bigger parks makes people a bit strange, they nag you and that’s not so nice. Away from the bigger attractions people where very friendly and accomodating.
We bought a local sim card for data access. Prices where about 5$ per 1GB.
The bigger areas had western restaurants. They are very into their beef, so if you get a chance try and get a nice steak or burger. A great place is Marc’s Eatery in Maun.
Overall very safe. More danger from animals than people. Lots of wildlife on the roads as there are not many fences. Avoid driving at night.
