MALAWI

SUMMARY

We drove through Zambia two up on our motorbike. We rode from Livingstone to Chiapata (border with Malawi) in about 6 days, stopping in Lusaka. The road from Livingstone to Lusaka was good, from Lusaka to Chiapata full of potholes but not an issue. Lots of trucks.

Doable with a car or motorbike. We also saw lots of cyclists.

Beautiful faces and smiles all around. There were a lot of road blocks but the police were always super friendly.

We did not purchase a sim card as we were there only a few days. From what we saw prices where reasonable. Internet was only available at the better hotels. In general GSM/4G was not available in between town.

Like most Southern African countries they love their Mais. You can find funky stuff on the side of the road. No western restaurants outside of Livingstone and Lusaka

We felt very safe, bar towards the evening on the “streets” of Lusaka. As you would in any capital city keep your hands in your pockets. Road Safety above average for Africa.
