This experience was an odd one for me. I’ve done a lot of adrenaline activities to push myself to get out of my comfort zone such as 007 Bungee Jump from James Bond movie, but there was something strange about this abseil that made me feel like I didn’t want to do it. Maybe because it was rather cold at the time we were there. Nevertheless, I did a small practice abseil with Max a day before the real deal. We stayed at Semonkong Lodge and booked the activity a day before. We left nice and early. There were about five guys with us, crew – it takes a while to set up the ropes, they’re massive!!! This is the longest commercial abseil in the Guinness Record Book. When we arrived at the waterfall it was basically FROZEN! meaning Max was abseiling down, sliding his feet on the rocks and getting wet from ice cold, splashing water. After the abseil you walk up the hill and back to the car. Max enjoyed it a lot! do I regret I didn’t do it? Nope 🙂Â
TIPS
there is a training session on using the equipment a day before the BIG DAY, make sure you ask all the questions and feel comfortable.
take an action camera ideally on a stick with a carabiner so you can attach it to your harness or wear it on a chest strap as you're gonna use your hands a lot.
wear comfortable shoes and trousers, you'll be squashed in a harness.
