SCENIC. RELAX. NATURE

JOURNAL

Okavango Delta is described as ”a maze of sparkling lagoons, meandering channels and overgrown islands teeming with wildlife, Botswana’s Okavango Delta lies like a sparkling jewel at the heart of the Kalahari Desert.” Drawn by the stunning pictures on the internet we had to do a mokoro trip (mokoro is a type of a canoe typical to that region). In the early morning you’re picked up by a car and head for the nearest launch site. This is one of the most popular activities in Botswana, so soon we saw lots of safari cars heading in the exactly same direction. At the busy launch site, you get in your mokoro and one of the local guides pushes you through the channels. Half way through the trip you stop for a lunch (lunch box is included) and walking safari. We saw a couple of elephants in the far distance and a hippo.  Overall we didn’t enjoy the trip as much as we thought we would for a few reasons: it was very touristy – a canoe next to a canoe and somehow the whole experience was lacking something. It wasn’t special.
