ABSEIL TABLE MOUNTAIN

ADVENTURE. ADRENALINE. FUN

JOURNAL

When we arrived in beautiful Cape Town one of the top things on our bucket list was abseil from Table Mountain. We booked ours online only a few days in advance, when we knew the weather would be perfect for spectacular views. I woke up on the day of our adventure with  huge anticipation and a tiny bit of stress as I didn’t know what to expect. We called Uber to take us to Table Mountain (don’t worry the drivers know where to drop you off), packed our sunglasses and off we go.

We arrived at the entrance to cable car and saw a massive queue of people zig-zagging across the street. ‘Ha! Look at those suckers queuing to get their tickets’ I thought, proudly carrying my mobile phone with our prebooked gondola admission displayed on the screen. As we walk up the queue we stop to ask where we should go. To my astonishment THIS WAS OUR QUEQUE!. It was taking forever and we totally underestimated it arriving just 1h before our scheduled abseil. 45 minutes later we jokingly admitted our defeat and we thought there was NO CHANCE we would make it on time and we probably lost our money, but at least we’ll have a look around on the top.

Somehow with a bit of luck we managed to arrive at the abseiling spot BANG on time. A friendly guy took us to the office to sign the ademnity claim, we left our backpacks and off we go to the site. We kitted up, the guide explained us the basics and off we went down. There were three people before us, so my husband and I were sitting in our harnesses on the cliff watching how other people abseil down. The wait was a bit nervewrcaking as you see how people shakingly step down the cliff. Finally it was our turn! The cool thing is that two people can abseil at the same time, so you have your buddy beside you for a bit comfort (or a nice photo). The scariest moment is to lean back and take your first step down. After that you start enjoying the picturesque views around and can relax a bit dangling on the rope.

The whole experience is just enough to give you a bit of adreliane rush and to do something a tad extraordinary. The views from Table Mountain certainly can’t be any better from any other place! Once at the bottom, I actually decided that one day I’ll do it again just because it’s so awesome!
